Trip Information

Bandipur is a hidden treasure waiting to be explored. This historic Newar town is found in Tanahu district above the main Pokhara to Kathmandu highway, 143 km west of Kathmandu and 80 km south of Pokhara. Bandipur sits on a ridge high above the Marshyangdi Valley and commands stunning views of the central Himalaya including Jugal Himal, Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Gorkha Himal, Manaslu, Himalchuli, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Kanjirowa.

Before the construction of the highway between Kathmandu and Pokhara, the town was once popular among surrounding villages for trade and other related activities. Originally inhabited by Magars, this village was later colonized in the eighteenth century by Newars from Bhaktapur and Banepa who took advantage of its malaria free location to develop it into an important stop along the India-Tibet trade route.

Bandipur town itself shines with its abundant Newari culture and lifestyle still kept alive. The ancient houses, temples of religious significance, rich culture, beautiful mountain views, stone paved streets and unspoiled environment make Bandipur a delight for travellers.
