The Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trekking Trail is a newly established trekking route that traverses around the north eastern part of the valley rim. This trekking trail has been established by a local NGO called NETIF (Nepal Environment & Tourism Initiative Foundation) who work in the field of tourism and environmental development. The project is jointly funded by NETIF and their INGO partner Suomen Latu, an outdoor activities group from Finland.
The trek itself is a fabulous way to explore the diverse culture and dramatic scenery along the valley rim. Its proximity to Kathmandu makes it a superb trek for those people who only have a short stay in Nepal. The route can also be enjoyed by diplomas and residents as well as Nepalese families.
Kathmandu/Sundarijal/Chisapani/Nagarkot/Dhulikhel/Kathmandu
Day 01: Transfer to Sundarijal from Kathmandu and trek to Mulkharka, two to three hours. We take lunch and overnight in a Lodge. During the afternoon you will have time to explore the Sundari Mai Temple.
Day 02: From Mulkharka, we climb up through the village and into the jungle towards Chisapani (2,300m). The trek takes five to six hours and passes over Bhoral Bhanjyang at just over 2,400m, from where we will get our first tantalizing views of the Himalaya. Stay overnight in a simple Tea House.
Day 03: Leaving Chisapani early, we trek five to six hours through the jungle and out into the rural farmlands to reach the hill station of Nagarkot (2,175m). We can enjoy a hot lunch along the route in the village of Chauki Bhanjyang. Stay overnight in Nagarkot.
Day 04: Six to seven hours of undulating trekking takes us along the rim of a valley and over several small hills to Dhulikhel (1,600m). We enjoy a packed lunch on route before arriving in the town and staying overnight in a resort/hotel.
Day 05: After breakfast, transfer either to the airport or back to your hotel in Kathmandu. Additional accommodation and sightseeing can be arranged at an extra cost.
