KHUMBU REGION: Khumbu is named after the mountain goddess Khumbiyela and still most climbers and Sherpas ask the goddess for her protection before climbing, offering incense and juniper in a puja ceremony. Dumji and Mani Rimdu are the greatest festivals in the region, celebrated during the month of November every year. The Khumbu people have their own costume, religion and culture which differ from other Sherpa people in Nepal.
